The Runes are an ancient alphabet native to ancient Germanic peoples. In addition to representing a sound value (a phoneme), runes can be used to represent the concepts after which they are named (ideographs). In modern times they can be used as an oracle. You draw particular runes and refer to their meanings for guidance. I have been using the runes as oracle for many many years and I treasure them. When I heard the Norse mythology of how Odin received the wisdom of the runes I was fascinated.

My song Rune tells the story of how the Norse God Odin receives the wisdom of the Runes. I play the part of Odin as I sing. He has just hung himself from Yggdrasil, the tree of life. He intends to go without food or water and pierce himself in the side to show himself worthy to the keepers of the Runes, the Norns. They are the Norse equivalent of the Fates. After nine days The Norns deem Odin worthy and bestow upon him the wisdom of the runes. His scream of exaltation can be heard throughout the world

So thankful to SJ Tucker who conceived of the chant over the music I had written for the end. I had written the second half of the music to to be the celebration of the tribal people of the world, with drums and voices raised. When Sooj heard it she conceived of the chant and recorded it for me. We worked together on placing it in the song.

This is really more of musical theater to me. I am grateful to SJ Tucker Andrea Summers & Lynda Millard for their help as the norms. I can't wait to finish the video for this one which has been mostly filmed but all of it against green screen for effects. So I will need help with this one.
